The Library IT Services Department collaborates with library staff in creating value added services by using a wide array of tools that include both open source (dspace, drupal, etc) and vendor driven products. As part of our team, our student developer will assist in exciting opportunities to enhance existing services in the areas of repository development, scholarly publishing, web development and content management systems. This is an excellent opportunity to gain real-life experience in the processes of design, development and maintenance of applications.
Description of duties:
- Development, testing, debug and maintenance of web and system applications, participating in the complete life cycle.
- Script development for data manipulations and transfers
Ideal Skills and Knowledge:
- Programming aptitude in PHP, Java, JavaScript, or Perl
- Understanding of relational databases and design
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Positive attitude and responsible work ethic
- Ability to work independently and proceed with objectives without close supervision
Helpful Skills:
- Experience in (X)HTML, CSS, SQL and other web accessibility skills
- Knowledge and expertise of PHP, jQuery, Perl or other programming languages
- Familiarity in a mix of OS environments (Linux, Windows, OSX)
- Familiarity in revision control systems
- Self-motivation, eager to learn new languages, programming, and design styles
- Technical writing
Hours:
10-20 hours per week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
