Student Assistant I - Interlibrary Services (Lending)

This position works under the general supervision of the Interlibrary Loan staff and all ILS work areas.  The main duties involve the processing of Interlibrary Loan requests for Borrowing and Lending materials to other libraries and Kansas State University students, faculty, & staff.  The following are specific duties assigned to this position and may change as other duties are assigned to include other areas of Hale Library.

*All student assistants may be required to be cross-trained in Borrowing and Lending.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Process incoming and outgoing scanning requests.
  2. Process incoming and outgoing physical items for shipping.
  3. Retrieve materials from Hale Library.
  4. Scan all orders and requests as needed at a high level quality. 
  5. Assist customers and/or direct them to appropriate department, building directions or provide information on Hale Library policies or procedures.
  6. Complete additional duties as assigned:  1) Assist the library with special projects.  2) Provide back-up for Borrowing with posting articles, processing returns and new loans and 3) special work assignments as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good customer service skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer experience with software applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience working independently without supervision.
  • Pride in your job and work performance. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Library of Congress cataloging
  • Scanning experience
  • Interlibrary Services work experience
