As K-State Libraries moves further into digital teaching and learning, the Instructional Design team has become an important part of the Libraries’ mission to serve students and other patrons where they are, providing instructional content delivered via cutting edge technology.
One particularly important project is the New Literacies Alliance (NLA), a consortial curricular project led by librarians from Kansas State University and University of Kansas Medical Center. Long-term, we hope to collaborate across many institutions to create a common curriculum throughout the state of Kansas based on characteristics of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy (and related) standards, to use as a leveling platform for library and research instruction. Our purpose is to address the “new” literacies required for academic success and lifelong learning in a cutting edge online learning platform that allows students to master skills at their own pace.
The graduate assistant will work closely with the Instructional Design Librarian and members of the K-State Libraries Undergraduate and Community Services Department, along with colleagues at the other participating institutions to develop content for three lessons during the fall semester.
In addition to the NLA project, the assistant will work with Libraries staff to create learning objects and instructional experiences for in-house training and for patron audiences.
