Student Assistant I - Interlibrary Services (Lending)

This position works under the general supervision of the Interlibrary Services Lending staff and all ILS work areas.  The main duties involve the processing of Interlibrary Loan requests for Lending as well as Borrowing materials to other libraries and Kansas State University students, faculty, & staff.  The following are specific duties assigned to this position and may change as other duties are assigned to include other areas of Hale Library. Training will be provided.

All student assistants may be required to be cross-trained in Borrowing and Lending.

Hours: 

Minimum of 10 hours/week.  Variable between M-F 8am-5pm year-round.  Prefer availability during breaks and over the summer.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Process incoming and outgoing scanning requests at a high quality level. 
  2. Process incoming and outgoing mail and physical items for shipping.
  3. Retrieve materials from Hale Library.
  4. Process new and returned loans.
  5. Assist customers and/or direct them to appropriate department, building directions or provide information on Hale Library policies or procedures.
  6. Complete additional duties as assigned:  1) Assist the library with special projects and work assignments as needed.  2) Provide back-up for Borrowing with posting articles, processing returns and new loans.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Good customer service skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer experience with software applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Regular work attendance experience. 
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience working independently without supervision.
  • Pride in your job and work performance. 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Library of Congress cataloging
  • Scanning experience
  • Interlibrary Services work experience
