Student Specialist, Communications & Marketing

The student specialist assists the Communications & Marketing Department with both internal and external communications (especially via social media) and supports promotion of K-State Libraries collections, events and services. The ideal candidate will have a passion for K-State and/or a love of libraries.

Hours:

Must be able to work 12-20 hours during our office hours (8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday), including summer (if available)

Description of Duties:

  • Planning engaging, informative Facebook posts
  • Creating and curating content for our Instagram account
  • Using Trello to manage long-range Twitter calendar, composing and scheduling tweets, and monitoring for mentions using HootSuite
  • Documenting day-to-day library activities through digital photography
  • Planning and executing at least one marketing campaign per semester for a pre-selected K-State Libraries' program
  • Posting Libraries items to K-State Today 
  • Assisting with administrative marketing tasks such as placing signs and maintaining supplies inventory for giveaways and brochures
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Skills:

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Proficient with social media 
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently
  • Ability to work as part of a creative, collaborative team
  • Proficient with basic PC software

Helpful Skills:

  • Knowledge of and appreciation for K-State Libraries
  • Digital photo editing skills
  • Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator skills
  • Video creation and editing
  • Excellent sense of humor

Equipment used:

  • PC and/or Mac
  • Mobile devices, e.g., smart phone, iPad
